Welcome back 15-16 season

Welcome back to another year with Beat the Heat (WA) Inc. and the start of the 2015/2016 drag racing season.

Display, Display, Displays!!!

We started our season at the Shannons “Classics in the Park” event on Langley Park, Perth, on August 16. This event, held as a part of Targawest event, saw good crowds come out on a sensational day to watch the special competition stage and to view the huge variety of cars on display.

The Queen’s Birthday long weekend saw the team split resources, with Tango’s 1 & 3 teaming up with the Shannons Super Rig on display at the Perth Royal Show and yours truly travelling to Geraldton with Tango 2 to put on a display at Mid West Show and Shine.

With great weather greeting both venues, good crowds were out and about admiring the scenery.

We will be displaying at Brookton on October 9, Octane in October at Katanning on October 17 and at Ignition Southwest in Bunbury on October 25.

Hope so see you at an event soon

Statewide Oil – Mobil 1

In what looks to be the last static display for the 2014/2015 season, the BTHWA team and Tango 2 were invited to the Statewide Oil – Mobile 1 V8 Supercar Promotion held at the showrooms of CPG in Bibra Lake.

In what is now an annual event for Statewide Oil, the event is held in the lead up to the V8 Supercar UBET Perth Super Sprint being held at Barbagallo Raceway May 1 – 3, 2015. Headlining the event was the Holden Racing Team and V8 Superstars James COURTNEY and local hero Garth TANDER, both of whom took some time out to speak with guests and were more than happy to have a photo or two with their fans. Tango 2 also got the opportunity for a photo with the boys with the view of maybe encouraging the lads down to the Perth Motorplex for a play at some point in the future.

The last competition event for us will be the final round Fast Racing Series on May 9. “Lethal” Lee will be hoping for a good night with the view of clinching the OZ-EFI championship to which he has a narrow 10 point lead. If you’re not doing anything, drop on down to see the boys in our last event for the 2014/2015 Drag Racing Season.

Stay Safe, Stay Legal, Stay on Track.

The Boy from Oz..EFI !!!!!

Lethal does it again…..

Well guys, we at Beat the Heat (WA) Inc have often quoted the phrase that we would rather be lucky than good!!!

T2 FF 20130308

That was never more prevalent for us than it was at the Fast Racing Series #4 event on March 27. Our miracle man, Lethal Lee, was keen to get his butt back into the GTO after his win at the Night of Fire meeting last weekend, with the view of making a charge at the Oz EFI top spot, to which he was currently sitting in 3rd.

We started the night by trialling a set of fresh 24” slicks on Tango 2, to see if we could get the car into a 1.4 second 60 foot range. Good air means good horsepower and we were quietly confident of giving it a scare. With Lethal Lee getting the stall up towards the 3000rpm mark, the car “rolled” out of the start box with a heap of wheel spin, waking up the limiter, in both 1st and 2nd gear, and continued to spin all the way up to around the 300 foot mark. We can safely say that we won’t be repeating that again any time soon.

With eliminations starting late, we got down to the business of racing.

With the car performing consistently in the high 11.1’s to low 11.2 second mark, we progressed through to round 3, where we lined up against seasoned campaigner Gavin Donnelly in his “50 Shades” Commodore. Unfortunately for Gav, there was only one shade and it was all red!!!! That’s lucky number one.

Next was the semi-final and Sondra DOBBS in her “R” for racing falcon. Now for those than have not had the pleasure of meeting Sondra, she is a passionate racer and was quick to start up with some friendly ‘smack’ talk in the staging lanes. Lethal was having none of that and ‘invited’ her onto the track to sort it out. Sondra was keen…too keen as it turned out with her night finishing on the line complements of a bright red light at the bottom of the tree. That’s lucky number two.

Final time and we had the formidable Mr. Dean BURTOFT to contend with in his rapid WA Performance Commodore. With top spot the prize for Lethal, and Dean chasing a berth in the top 3, it was all up for grabs. Lethal launched first with a 0.043 reaction, Dean’s Commodore launched out hard in pursuit, unfortunately a little too premature thanks to a 0.016 red light, and that made it a hat trick of reds that saw the House of Power prepared Tango 2 take the win and top spot on the scoreboard.

That wrapped up another great night for us at the track. If you missed all the action, be sure to get you backside trackside for the WA Drag Racing Grand Final and the last two Fast Racing Series events.

The Heat fires up at the Night of Fire

With our season fast winding down to the WA Drag Racing Grand Finale on April 11, the team was in full force to contest the penultimate round at the Perth Motorplex Night of Fire – Jet Car event.

With all cars firing and the boys wanting some revenge for three first round knockouts at the previous Washpod Nitro Max event, the stage was set for a great nights racing.

Round 1 Eliminations saw Chris DB in Tango 1 take out the current point’s score leader Ian TAYLOR, Lethal Lee in Tango 2 repeat his Westernationals final win by beating Kirstie WROE in her magnificently presented Thornlie Automatics Monaro, and Mike W in Tango 3 knocking out seasoned competitor Craig CATON.

Round 2 Eliminations saw Lethal and T2 progress through with a win over Brett CONNOLLY, but both Chris CB and Mike W taking no further part in the action care of losses Jake MILLS and Paul GARBELLINI.

Round 3 pitted Tango 2 up against Round 2 cop killer Jake MILLS. With the usual staging lanes banter in full flight, Lethal and Jake decided that talk was cheap and took it out onto the track. With the air getting fatter and a great track prep, both boys cut good lights and smashed their dial in/s with Lethal recording the win complements of breaking out by less than Jake.

A Semi-final solo enabled us to test our dial-in in T2, which we smashed from a 11.25 to a 11.18.

The final saw Lethal pitted up against young Phil STEWART, competing in his first final in his beautifully presented black Ford Boss 315 Ute. Both boys cut 0.0 lights with Lethal getting closer to his dial-in giving him the win and another bit of silverware for his increasing trophy case.
